Learning new things is great. But!… There are three occasions when additional studying slows you down.
Read the following points and reflect on your behavior. Do any of these apply to you?
1️. Procrastination
You keep on studying in order not to start something else. You may be afraid of doing that first step of actually applying your knowledge, of starting your own project etc. And thus, you continue studying, which gives you an illusion that you are occupied with serious work.
For more ideas on this subject read my articles “Why I don’t want to do what I want to do?” and and “Someday is not a day of the week”.
2️. Perfectionism
You want to achieve perfection before you start applying your knowledge. And so… you keep on doing countless seminars and reading books. And eventually you never turn your knowledge into action, because you never feel perfectly ready!
3️. The process
You study for the sake of studying. You enjoy the process of studying more than the actual knowledge that you achieve. Perhaps you like making notes, using colorful pencils or drinking coffee while you study etc.
All of the above is great if it brings you pleasure, but if it keeps you away from some other serious projects, review this point!
If any of the above situations make you feel uncomfortable, you may want to search for deeper reasons behind this or for a solution. For a start, you may try and do the following self-awareness exercise and ask yourself a few questions:
- Why do I really study?
- What do I want to achieve?
- How do I feel about the actual process of studying?
- How do I feel before and after studying?
These questions will help you understand the underlying motives of your behavior. If you want to do a 360-degree analysis, hurry up and book your first life coaching session with me! Together we will explore your goals and will set a feasible action plan that will lead you to a result!
